Postal Checks Shrink Without Truman Signed Bill
Postal workers face smaller pay checks starting July 18 unless President Truman signs the bill increasing salaries. Most Amarillo postal employees will see cuts, including postmaster James C. Ely, who had not previously received an acting postmaster raise. Only Roy & Mc Gee and H. M. Timmons avoid reductions due to offsets from planned raises. The cuts stem from higher retirement fund contributions.
