Baylor University in Waco marks the start of its 103rd year with a drive to boost the general endowment fund to at least 10 million dollars. President Pat M. Neff outlined goals including pay raises for teachers, general improvements, lighter teaching loads, and better provisions for retirement plans.
The traffic accident scoreboard on the courthouse lawn at Sixth and Fillmore is being repainted in red white and black. Repainting began yesterday and the board was erected several years ago by the Amarillo Safety Council.
Mrs. W. B. Amacker, secretary of the Panhandle Automobile Club, says tourism has sharply declined since last year as service people stay home with families who met them at separation centers no longer traveling. She notes fewer overcharges, tire availability improved, and a slow season with Tucson Phoenix and Palm Springs as favored resorts.
