The Senate Oil Investigating Committee warned the nation cannot wage major war on its own oil and urged bold steps to ready synthetic fuel production. It found domestic reserves could defend a wartime defense, but urged steps to develop them and a five point plan to boost exploration, conservation, research, free enterprise, and foreign oil policy.
The forecast calls for fair and mild conditions this afternoon with a cold wave tonight and northerly winds 30 to 35 mph. Saturday will be fair with diminishing winds and continued cold. Temperatures dip to near zero in the Panhandle, with 5 to 10 degrees in the Panhandle and 10 to 15 in the South Plains, and 25 to 32 degrees elsewhere. Adolf Hitler's private photographer Heinrich Hoffmann received a ten year sentence at hard labor from a Munich denazification tribunal. He was also deprived of civil rights for life and had almost all personal possessions confiscated. The sentence marks the 14th anniversary of his move from Munich to Berlin to join Hitler.
Democratic leaders said President Truman will be invited to address the Texas Legislature during his March visit to Texas. He will pass through Austin en route from Mexico City to Waco to receive an honorary degree from Baylor University.
