Lt. A. C. Smith announced a telegram from the Fourth Army commanding general listing military occupational specialties in critical demand. Auto mechanic 14, cook 60, telephone and telegraph installer repairman 97, clerk 405, radio repairman 648, radio operator intermediate speed 740, and radio operator.
Jackie H Fleming son of Mr and Mrs Jack Fleming of 413 East Eighteenth leaves for overseas duty after a 1946 Amarillo High School graduation. He played for the Golden Sandie football team and worked at Duniven’s Service Station and in The Globe News press room. He completed basic training at Port Lewis Washington and reports to Camp Stoneman California for an engineer replacement depot assignment in the Pacific.
Sheppard Army Air Field in Texas will be offered for sale after being declared surplus by Washington. Completed in 1941 at a cost of 83 million dollars the field saw 2,000,000 Army Air Forces pass through. It was inactivated last fall.
