Admiral Richard E. Byrd lands in Amarillo from Roswell New Mexico by air and proceeds to the Municipal Auditorium for tonight's lecture and film program. He flew here after driving from El Paso to Roswell yesterday. He requests no reception or ceremony on arrival due to a busy speaking schedule.
Bids from building contractors are approved to begin construction of a government radio station and range beacon Monday. The site is on the J. W. Pottinger property, four and a half miles east of the city, between Municipal Airport and English Field. Land leased with option to buy. M. L. Ericksen, architectural engineer for the Department of Commerce, coordinates details.
Four men and one woman were held by Wise County officers in connection with the Chico State Bank robbery of 1500 dollars. Authorities planned to file charges after a countryside search west of Decatur for the lone bandit who locked cashiers and customers in the vault and fled with paper currency.

Thirty days after January 31 licenses incur 20 percent penalty. voting rights lost if poll tax paid after Jan 31. Half payments allowed before delinquency. interest on paid portion halts immediately.
Reports from Wall Street indicate Ford Motor Co will raise production and expand employment as price cuts boost demand. Oldsmobile division of General Motors also plans a 30 percent February production increase based on nationwide sales gains and steady improvements in business conditions. See John about building. Plaintiffs led by KR G Byrd of Amarillo sue Skelly Company in US district court for 1 090 000 and 1 500 009 alleging deliberate failure to drill an oil well to condemn the Byrd and Patterson lease in Hutchinson county. They claim abandonment of development on two Byrd family tracts after paying 1922 29 lease rents and cite two wells including a small gas well and a reported dry hole with a paying oil amount found between 8340.

BORGERS Jan 30 A Cunningham 65 was found dead today on a vacant business district lot. A bullet from a pistol he borrowed pierced his brain. He was an oil field worker but has been unemployed for months. Keith Gets Path Co Assets in Radio Keith Oprheum deal. Fort Worth divorce granted Mrs Chloe Tabor Scott 27 from Winfield Scott Jr millionaire in 48th district court. It was his fourth divorce. No cash settlement listed.
Governor Ross Sterling announced promotions for Ranger units. Frank A. Hamer remains captain at Austin, with Will A. Wright at Fort Stockton, Tom R. Hickman at Fort Worth, Light Townsend at Del Rio, Albert R. Mace at Falfurrias, and C. O. Moore as captain of the Quartermasters Corps in Austin. Captains will select their own men.
The Associated Press reports 150 unemployed men marched quietly through Tulsa's downtown with banners reading We want work. The event highlighted joblessness in the city as they called for employment.
Will Rogers has raised over 41 thousand dollars in nine Texas appearances for the Red Cross relief fund. He spoke in Houston drawing a packed auditorium, with Captain Frank Hawks piloting his plane and Jesse H Jones meeting him in the mud. Wititehaven Cumberland Jan 30 Twenty eight coal miners are known to have been killed in the Haig Pit explosion. Sixteen bodies were recovered by noon and others were located for removal as quickly as possible.

John W. Wright known as Bad John or Devil Judd Tolliver in John Fox Jr. novels and Cumberland legends died at his mountain cabin near Pound Virginia at age 88. Reputed to have killed 25 to 30 men, he operated as a deputy sheriff and gained fame for his bold hunting and quick trigger finger. His death came after a period of ill health and surprised many of his friends.
