A coal mine explosion at Little Betty near Linton Indiana killed 29 miners. Rescue crews recovered seven more alive as black damp hampered efforts and identification of victims remained slow. Civilian guards organized traffic for ambulances throughout the night and morning.
Orville Bullington of Wichita Falls testified before the Senate Commerce Committee that about 100,000 oil field workers in the Mid-Continent area are unemployed. He linked the plight to unrestricted crude imports and supported the Capper bill to limit imports and embargo refined products while Tariff on oil and gasoline was proposed by the Shortridge measure.

A masked bandit robbed the Chico State Bank of about 1500 dollars this morning then locked Cashier W E Aldridge and customer S W Roberts in the vault. He fled in an old sedan, was pursued by a large posse and disappeared into brush near a creek fifteen miles west of Chico, Texas. Aldridge freed himself and alerted authorities two minutes after the vault was sealed.
