Austin January 29 The house passed a bill banning liquor on common carriers and allowing searches of automobiles for liquor without a warrant and of homes on information and belief with a warrant. Debates centered on modifications to the search and seizure law amid a pending suspension measure.
Final judgment was entered on three bonds totaling 7000 dollars with others set aside or continued for service of citations. Bonds forfeited include those of C H Boyles with two sureties totaling 5500 dollars and Fred Downs on 1500 dollars. One witness was fined 50 dollars for contempt. A G Raines awaiting judgment. Ernest Ford’s bond was passed temporarily.
Santone police charge two men with possession of forged instruments intended for passing. Police found over $7,000 in cash and three substantial checks totaling $52,000, drawn on two New York banks and payable to Walter N. Holeman. A habeas corpus hearing was set for today.
Riverside California January 29 1930 Mrs Sarah Louisa Northcott mother of Gordon Stewart Northcott visits in court as the youth fights to refute state evidence alleging he killed three boys at the Wineville ranch. Northcott sought to admit testimony to prove he is not his mother’s son while prosecutors press objections.
In Peoria Illinois Jan 29 Ralph Campbell a taxicab driver found 500 in his cab. He located the passenger who lost it and returned the money. He refused a reward and offered to reimburse the taxi company for extra mileage caused by the return.
The Senate interstate committee met in executive session over the nomination of former Texas governor Pat M. Neff to the U S board of railroad mediation. Neff claimed Senator Mayfield opposed his confirmation for political and personal reasons as letters from Texas officials were cited. Senator Wheeler noted a letter signed by a Hoover Democrat.
A black powder bomb exploded in the front of a small paint store on Federal street Chicago early today. The incident marked the eighth bombing this year and was attributed to labor trouble.
District attorney will seek to bring W J Whitey Walker and Alan Ace Pendleton to trial April 8 for the attempted robbery of the Stock Yards National Bank in September 1927. The bank robbery was foiled by a passing officer. Walker and Pendleton were arrested in Marlin, released on bond, and disappeared. Recent arrests in New York and El Paso brought requests to return them for trials on bank robbery and related offenses.

President-elect Hoover and Alfred E. Smith met for twenty five minutes at the Belle Isle vacation home in Miami Beach. Smith congratulated Hoover and wished him luck as John J. Raskob and William F. Kenny looked on during the social greeting.
H Reese, convicted in district court on a home brew charge and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary, was arrested after word reached that the sentence was affirmed. He is held in Potter County jail pending transfer to the penitentiary.
Funeral rites for Mrs Margaret F Phillips 54 wife of Joe Phillips will be held from the family home at 100 North Lamar street this afternoon conducted by Rev Paul Fuller of San Jacinto Methodist church. Burial will be in Llano cemetery. The family has lived in Amarillo 26 years with four sons three daughters and two daughters in New York City among pallbearers Dan Witt Raymond McCarty Elton McCarty Louis Meers Marvin Lewis James Lewis and honorary pallbearers Allen Turner Raymond Knighton Earl Erwin Gordon Williams Jimmie Gardner Harry Hamberlin.
Sam Pickard, radio commissioner of the Middle Western zone, has submitted his resignation to President Coolidge effective February 1. He indicated an announcement would come from the White House or from Columbia Broadcasting on a possible move to vice president, but declined to comment further.
The thirty sixth annual Texas Woman's Press Association convention will be held in Alpine from May 9 to 11. President Emma Cobb Evans announced the event with Mrs. Byrd Pearce Hamilton as general arrangements chairman.
