Potter County commissioners approved across the board raises for elected officials and staff, increasing the county judge and sheriff salaries to 6325 annually, boosting several county offices to about 6050, and raising total salaries in the general, road and bridge, court house and jail, and park funds. The hikes, capped by law, were adopted after a brief discussion.
George M. Gunderson wins the $5 first prize for News Tips after reporting a cash register theft at Panhandle and offering follow up details. Allen Johnson takes $3 for a burglary at the North Amarillo postal station. Donald Eddy wins $2 for a tip on a highway accident near the Canadian River bridge with one death.

FRANKFURT Germany Jan 22 General Eisenhower winds up his German stay with an informal meeting at Bad Homburg with the three Western Allied high commissioners. A cold kept him from a formal session and he will fly to Paris tomorrow where a Communist demonstration is planned on Wednesday. He then proceeds to Iceland on Thursday.

Amarillo bread prices rose again as wholesale producers added another penny per pound and loaf size. Retailers raised the 16-ounce loaf to 19 cents and the 24-ounce loaf to 25 cents. A supermarket spokesman cited reduced net percentage margins and anticipated a price freeze, hoping for a rollback to January 1, 1950.
Harry Shugars age 28 was arraigned on a disorderly conduct charge after a domestic dispute. Judge Grover C Bradstreet fined him 15 dollars but suspended the fine if he bought his wife a five dollar bouquet and apologized, a gesture that led him to the local florist.

In Taipei on January 22 the Union Press, a pro Nationalist agency with underground source tips, reported the Chinese Reds are drawing up a blacklist of 500000 persons to be purged by June 1949. Most reports remain unconfirmed.
