The Sunday News Globe will print 5,000 extra copies of the Exposition and Development Edition to meet demand. In Brownsville on January 18, the Wallace office of Receiver RB Creager began distributing more than one billion dollars in claims against the defunct W. E. B. Stewart Land Company. The amount represents about 90 percent of the total claims filed with the receiver.
The Southwestern Public Service company proposed to sell or lease its water plant to the city or to supply water for the city after a new production plant is completed. The offer sets a price of 376000 for the distribution system and includes potential extensions and improvements since January 1, 1926. An alternative price of 876000 for the distributing property was also stated, with a provision to accept any price found by disinterested appraisals.
Two foreign flyers and two U S cadets survived a collision of Martin bombers 2300 feet above Kelly Field San Antonio. Cadet Faustino L Neira of Cuba and Lieut Benjamin Mendez of Colombia pulled the bomber from a tail spin and landed safely. Cadet G F Schleppy and Roberto M Kridert escaped after leaping clear and using parachutes.

A South Dakota couple drove to Austin to seek clemency for their son Jack A Merritt. Governor Miriam A. Ferguson granted a full pardon after a two year sentence for robbery by assault and theft of over fifty dollars. The parents said they would take Merritt to Huntaville and then return home.

In Washington on January 18 a senate move toward arbitration of the oil dispute with Mexico was launched. Senator Robinson of Arkansas introduced a resolution favoring arbitration, backed by Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Borah and ranking Democrat Swainson of Virginia.
Dan Moody, 33, son of a pioneer cattle driver, received Texas' highest office from Miriam A. Ferguson, the first woman governor. Moody called the duties humbling as the crowd marked Texas’ largest inauguration turnout. Ferguson reflected on an abbreviated term and a life enlarged by service.
