Mobilization of Amarillo resources including manpower morale and industrial support peaks tonight with a mass meeting at Municipal Auditorium. Mayor Ernest Q Thompson leads the Loyalty to Amarillo drive to provide employment for the jobless. Details will be outlined and plans set for the zero hour Wednesday when committees go over the top in a job-for-all campaign. Every organization, home, and individual is urged to participate.
Frank Reilly, 26, of New York, said he could not pay for dinner so he would rather go to jail. He ate a full first class meal at a Chicago restaurant and sought a waiter job after the proprietor offered him a position.
Colquitt Davis a 20 year old convicted slayer of Deputy Sheriff Don Keirsey was sentenced to death by District Judge Asa Walden. His attorney said a new trial would be sought. The case centers on the December Wirt Oklahoma gunfight and the subsequent pursuit.
Mrs. Menerva Slack died at 8:15 this morning at her home seven miles south of Canyon. The Randall County resident for 28 years leaves three sons, one daughter, and a Baptist Church member. Salt Lake City report says ice appeared on Great Salt Lake for the first time in weather bureau records. Geological survey engineer A. B. Parton confirmed ice about a quarter of an inch thick beginning at shore and extending 1,000 feet into the lake. Water is roughly 23 percent solid.
Amarillo Typographical Union members vote to switch to a five day week for three months starting January 10. Printers on the Globe-News slip board will receive the extra day, with aim to boost employment amid unemployment relief efforts and encourage broader support from labor groups and the public.

In Chicago police blame internecine gang warfare for the murder of Pasquale Patsy Tardi leader of the 42 gang. He was shot on Polk Street with Ralph Costanzo wounded nearby. Police found no witnesses as two cars fled. Costanzo, blond and left handed, survived, Costanzo found by a nun near a hospital. Police say the Lingle murder link is doubtful. Separate report from St Louis notes two gangsters Leo Orlando and Isadore Katz found shot to death north of the city.
William F. MacLaren and Mrs. Beryl Wart reach Hamilton Bermuda on the first leg toward Paris aboard the Tradewind seaplane after taking off from Norfolk Virginia. They began the flight last Saturday but had to return due to a damaged sextant, hindering navigation to the island.
The monoplane Tradewind arrived at Hamilton harbor carrying Mrs. Beryl Hart and Lieut. William S. MacLaren. They then took off from Hampton Roads to fly via Bermuda and the Azores to Paris, with MacLaren at the controls on the first successful takeoff. The flight follows a previous failed attempt and favorable tailwinds aided the departure.
The House conferees agreed to government building of power transmission lines at Muscle Shoals Alabama, breaking the long standstill with the Senate. The compromise hinges on whether the House will accept the terms triggering presidential action.
Five masked robbers hold up the Bank of Cyril in southeastern Caddo County taking 3000 dollars from ten people. They force everyone to the vault with hands raised, lock them inside, and escape in a large sedan heading north out of Cyril. No injuries reported.
Washington The Wickersham law enforcement commission recessed unexpectedly today until January 14. Officials gave no hint if the anticipated prohibition report, now nearly complete, would be submitted to President Hoover or discussed further next week before presentation to the White House.
Natal hosts Gen Italo Balbo and ten Italian seaplanes crew after a 17 hour 10 minute flight spanning almost 1000 miles from Bolama to Natal. Two planes ditched at sea. one rescued by the destroyer Antonio Mosto and another near St Paul Island. Balbo leads three days of celebrations before continuing to Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
Chairman Woods of the Hoover committee on employment testified before the Senate appropriations committee that four to five million people are unemployed and that the situation is unlikely to improve until spring. He warned against accepting periodic downturns as inevitable and noted the likely low employment levels this month and next.
Los Angeles report: Ethel Grey Terry, a well known theater and film personality for 20 years, died yesterday at her home after a long illness. Born in Oakland, she began as a classical dancer and was the daughter of actress Lillian Lawrence.
The third annual air races in Miami and a Sunday symphony concert for unemployed musicians are planned for radio. Ted Husing will host the air races from 3 to 4 p m Saturday on WABC, with Rear Admiral Moffett among speakers. The WEAF WJZ concert from 10 to 11 a m Sunday will feature the unemployed musicians' benefit program.
Chicago January 7 Mrs Lolita Sheldon Armour emerges as a principal beneficiary after Shell Union Oil and Standard Oil California buy Universal Oil Products for 22 249 999. Armour held 400 of the 1 000 shares and gains 8 216 058 with other beneficiaries including I C Dodds Hiram J Halle Natoma Corp attorney Reichmann and Belknap in the multi million payout tied to the Dubbs cracking process used to produce gasoline.
