Joe B. Rutherford, 70, died last night at Endee New Mexico. He belonged to the Baptist Church. The body is in state at Blackburn-Shaw funeral home awaiting relatives. British Make Hundredth Air Bombardment Attack on Brest

The air ministry said British planes heavily attacked Brest a naval base on the French coast where two German battleships and a heavy cruiser are docked. Docks at Cherbourg on the invasion coast were also hit. The Brest raid was the 100th air raid since the war began.

TDG Air Patrol Meets Tonight

The central organization of the 11th Squadron's enlisted personnel will be formed at the squadron headquarters 710 Taylor Street tonight at 7 o'clock. All officers of the staff and Amarillo flights are to attend in uniform. Men of military age in good condition may join the Texas Defense Guard Air Corp. prior radio piloting or medic experience is helpful but not required. Training in radio, airplane maintenance, military science, and aerial methods will be provided to officers and enlisted personnel. Uniforms will be furnished by the quartermaster’s corps.

South Amarillo Club Withdraws Petition

South Amarillo Club withdraws its petition to have the city purchase a park site. The club asks the city commission to hold the petition in abeyance due to the present national emergency and suggests another site for future consideration. An old fashioned dance is planned at Cathedral Hall Monday night at 8.

Convention Movies At Legion Meeting

Legionnaires at Hanson post will view motion pictures of the Milwaukee national convention. Clay Thornton, post commander, will show the films at 1800 Harrison Street. The American Legion has met every Tuesday since the war declaration, and Bill Gilstrap, commander, met with the executive committee at noon to discuss Legion activities.

Women Learn War Duties in Amarillo Meeting

Hundreds of Amarillo women attended a Civilian Defense meeting at the Amarillo Hotel where Col. E. A. Simpson outlined canteen service for troops and morale boosts at the service center. Van Dusen Funeral Services Tomorrow

Funeral rites for W. L. Van Dusen will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Father Wilmer Reichel will read the mass. Benton dies. longtime Amarillo area farmer obituary

W B Benton born February 4 1866 and his wife widow Mrs W B Benton died July 26 were married October 19 1892 at Marshall Missouri. They moved from Marshall to the Panhandle then to a farm three miles east of Amarillo in 1903. A farmer all his life he retired recently. Survived by three sons two daughters eleven grandchildren and siblings in New Mexico Missouri and Arizona. Body in state at Boxwell Brothers Chapel with funeral arrangements not yet set.
