Undersecretary Patterson argued the deal saved money during the war, noting postwar liquidation issues and a plan to resell after hostilities. Patterson cited high rental costs and restoration at the end of the occupancy as reasons to buy. A hotel supply house reportedly offered between $3.0 and $3.5 million for the property after the war.
