An Interstate Commerce Commission report blames an entire freight crew for a Dec 9 1928 collision on the Fort Worth Denver City line near Twist Texas. Three died, 38 hurt as orders confusion led to a head on with a passenger train and derailment and fire.
A new feature in The Globe titled Mother Nature's Curio Shop presents oddities of nature drawn by William Ferguson. The first picture ran Monday and the second appears on Page 7 today. San Francisco report says evidence links Superior Judge Carlos Hardy to efforts in 1926 to clear Aimee Semple McPherson of clandestine meetings with Kenneth Ormiston. Assemblyman Cronin plans to present notes and affidavits from Mrs Lorraine Wiseman Sielaff and Mrs Virla Kimball.
Walter C. Ransom 59, longtime Armstrong County rancher, died at his home 20 miles southeast of Washburn at 5 this morning. Survived by widow, four sons Fred Roy Don Jarrett and daughter Ellen Marie. Body at ranch home awaiting relatives. Funeral planned in Claude Friday afternoon under N S Griggs and Sons. He came to Armstrong County 44 years ago and ran cattle with land leased near Palo Duro Canyon southeast of Washburn. Children helped manage the ranch in recent years.
Amarillo citizens and Tri-State Fair directors will vote on officers for the ensuing year at a general meeting this afternoon at 4 o clock in the Board of City Development. A large attendance is expected and nearly all directors have pledged to be present. Citizens are urged to participate.
Dayton reports Lieut. Harry Johnson of Selfridge Field achieved an estimated 40 000 foot altitude on his fourth attempt at Wright Field. The exact height awaits barograph verification by field engineers later today.
Texas Newspapers Inc has been chartered to publish five West Texas papers The Ranger Times Eastland Telegram Mineral Wells Index Cisco Times and Breckenridge American. The group links with Southwest Newspapers Inc under E and Fentress of Waco and Charles E Marsh of Austin. Incorporators are Fentress Marsh and Walter Murray who will manage. The group list spans Austin Waco Port Arthur Brownsville Laredo Wichita Falls Mineral Wells Breckenridge Cisco Eastland and Ranger.
Paris report says Marshal Ferdinand Foch improved slightly with better lung condition and lower temperature after a difficult uraemic crisis. Doctors note anxiety remains over the crisis while Mrs. Milton Cunningham is confined at home with the flu.
William D. Mitchell, then solicitor general, chosen by President-elect Hoover to serve as Attorney General. Friends say William J. Donovan will not take federal office after March 4. Mitchell, a Minnesota native, had been listed as a Democrat but backed Hoover. He was appointed solicitor general by Coolidge.
Blizzarded Minnesota Wisconsin and Iowa meet spring thaw in the Midwest while tornadoes kill four in Texas and Mississippi suffers flood threat. In Duncan Mississippi a wind storm left many dead and relief workers rush to prevent disease as debris clears and rehab begins.
The city commission ordered the diagonal line of wires at the new Municipal Airport moved to the tract’s edge after aligning with Southwestern Bell. City workers will handle the relocation, lowering the obstruction risk and meeting Commerce Department requirements.

In Maywood a touring car styled as a police vehicle and bearing a detective bureau license was exploded by dynamite. Police found a notebook with names linked to Al Weinshank and Ted Newberry from the St Valentine’s Day Massacre case. The Peerless car had a police gun rack and license 787 950. Witnesses say two men in police uniforms may have participated.
Gendarmes report finding a secret sect of several hundred men and women living unclothed in caves at Varkovesti in Bessarabia. They were rounded up. members called themselves innocents while police allege Pagan practices were followed.

The Court of Criminal Appeals affirms Henry Helms's death sentence for robbing Cisco National Bank on December 23, 1927. The indictment cited $12,400 taken from A. Spears, bank officer, with two police officers killed. Accompanying cases include Marshall Ratliff’s death and life sentences, and the appeals by Harry J. Leahy. Caves of Tim Ingram and B. A. Ingram receive ten years each for robbery of D. L. Allen.
Captain Ira Faker, chief pilot of the Army monoplane project, will test a new single seater pursuit plane capable of three miles a minute or more on a 150 hour endurance flight. The aircraft, built at Boeing, reached 170 miles per hour in a test and will cover Brownsville Texas to Colon Panama before heading to San Diego.
