James Mangan of Chicago, an advertising man, was restrained aboard a Detroit bound flight after he leaped from his seat, cried at the top of his lungs, and tried to enter the cockpit. Pilot Louis Steward said Mangan shouted he would run the plane and tossed money from the cabin before four officers escorted him to a hospital for observation.
Kathleen Kay, a film actress, bet Buster Keaton $500 she could lose 20 pounds in 20 days. She allegedly failed, but Keaton paid up. A subsequent studio incident led to broken windows and a wrecked dressing room. Keaton reportedly recovered at home from bruises and cuts.
District Judge C A Wheeler today upheld the legality of oil proration in Texas ruling for the State Railroad Commission in the Danciger Oil and Refining Company of Amarillo suit. The decision will be appealed and follows earlier injunctions delaying enforcement of the order.
The opening hearings of the house ways and means committee on tariff measures to shield the oil industry featured Democratic Leader Garner declaring a petroleum tariff before adjournment is impossible. Rep Garber led testimony for 11 independents backing the Capper Garber bill to cap oil imports at 16 million barrels annually through 1923. In Oklahoma City the Mary Anselwell well erupted Friday the 13th sending crude over nearby homes as gas thickened around the site.
Texas House State Affairs committee heard arguments on a bill to legalize horse race wagering. Supporters led by W T Waggoner backed the plan to aid fairs and livestock, while pastors and opponents warned it would restore legalized gambling in Texas. Former Senator Thomas B Love and Cato Sells spoke against it.
The House Ways and Means committee approved a favorable report on a 700 million veterans compensation plan by a 17 to 4 vote. Opponents Hawley Treadway Chindblom Milneis Ramseyer argued for more study on revenue needs and delaying action on the widow and orphan pension until next session. Hines of Veterans Affairs predicted the pension would cost about 216 million over 62 years and urged further study.

W C Sanderford aged 55 was found slain in his Little River store near Belton Texas after eight axe blows to head and face. Robbery suspected as money watch and jewelry missing. Rain washed away tracks leaving no clues for investigators.
