Last Survivors Of Yukon Are Removed From Alaskan Coast
Rescue crews pulled the last survivors from the wrecked liner Yukon after it broke in two off the Alaska coast. About 371 passengers and 124 crew were aboard. 10 still missing. Army planes dropped supplies. breeches buoys ferried 296 from the wreck to rescue ships while shore parties and dog teams aided stranded passengers. Dust Bowl unlikely in Washington but dust in Great Plains area
Federal soil conservation officials said there is no possibility of a dust bowl this year in Washington though they monitor the Kansas-Oklahoma wheat belt where dust clouds swirl. One spokesman warned another dust bowl could come in 1948 if dryness continues and wartime food production pressures push soil erosion.

Bus Crash Injures Buffalo Player Tomberlin Near Happy
West Texas State College bus carrying 22 Buffalo students was struck by a car five miles south of Happy at 11:30 last night. Jack Tomberlin of Amarillo suffered a brain concussion but is not believed to be critically hurt. he was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital. A Floydada man is jailed as the investigation continues.
