Seventeen rescue ships battle heavy seas to save about 380 passengers and crew as the liner Yukon is torn in half during a brutal Alaskan blizzard. Twenty people are reported missing, authorities said at Seward Alaska on February 5.
A Cambridge clerk politely declines nylons only to be gifted a pair by a customer. Survivors from the liner Yukon recount 60 mile winds and 30 minutes in icy water after the ship broke on a reef near Seward. Rescue boats saved 30 minutes later as passengers huddled on the wrecked bows.
The Uruguayan delegation urged the United Nations to outlaw the death penalty for Hermann Goering and other top Nazi war lords on trial at Nuremberg. A Brownsville search plane located the shrimper Isabel and its three crew members Harley Moore captain of San Benito Sgt Elmer Mahurin and Shirley Moore of Port Isabel. Vinson as U S governor of the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank, William L. Clayton as alternate governor, all for five year terms.

Lt. Gen Masaharu Homma testified at his war crimes trial in Manila stating he traveled along the Bataan Death March route and saw a worn column of prisoners heading toward San Fernando but denying seeing any bodies. He claimed the Japanese navy bombed Manila after it was declared an open city.
J Ray, who yesterday underwent an operation at Mayo Brothers in Rochester Minnesota, was reported in good condition last night by George Ray, who is with his father.
