The Travel Air monoplane Miss Amarillo carrying Lieut Robert H Gray Mia Gray and three others crashed near Amarillo and will be dismantled and burned with only salvageable motor parts and instruments kept. Wings were removed and moved to the Municipal Airport for later destruction and disposal.
Slow spin at 200 feet as Gray descended toward the course end suggested an elevator control had snapped. The pilot could not raise the nose, and after a full turn the ship crashed with its nose dipped and tilted aside. Wind shifts and possible whip stall were noted as factors.
Laredo Texas December 31 1929 business leaders gathered to petition Governor Dan Moody to demand the resignation or removal of District Attorney John A Walls. The call followed the Mexican Consulate closure and Walls arrest attempt of General Plutarco Elias Calles on December 16. The petition, signed by about 400 citizens, urged action to resolve a developing commercial crisis.
