Pacific Puddle-Jumper joins Navy invasion craft in Pacific
The Navy lifts secrecy on the landing craft Pacific Puddle-Jumper an ugly duckling used in General MacArthur s invasion of the Philippines and the assault on Japan s defenses. LSMs carry light tanks and troops with end gate bows and are crewed by 48 enlisted men and four officers. The ship is smaller and uglier than the familiar LST and provides a hot welcome for Jap aircraft with machine guns.
