Nimrod Islands Seen as Mirage Claims Dismissed
Antarctic expedition reports from the Nimrod Islands area show no sighting by the Yancey and Merrick after covering several miles in all directions from the Nimrod position. Original sighting credited to Captain Eilbeck in 1828 is suspected to be a mirage by later explorers. Also noted is the Panhandle Women's Open Bowling Tournament scheduled for January 18 19 and 25 26.
