The De Molay Christmas dance at the Shrine Temple is postponed until January 3. An orchestra canceled on short notice, prompting the shift. Master Masons and wives and Shriners and wives are invited to attend next Thursday night.
The 41st Texas legislature expected reform bills including repealing search and seizure for liquor, banning evolution teaching in tax supported schools, ten day marriage license notice, making wife desertion a felony, and sterilizing the feeble minded. Also plans for pre nominating platform conventions and anti evolution measures are outlined.
One man is dead and two others seriously injured after a gas explosion tore through the naval dock at Key West destroying the lighthouse tender PoIndextra. Seaman W F Atkinson heroically rescued Leon Carey and Joseph Ygerian as oil-laden surf and wreckage filled the water. A crewman, K. Kittson, was later found drowned. The blast followed a stove lighting attempt in a galley with a leaking fuel pipe.
Amarillo fire department adds two 750 gallon pumpers at a cost of 23000 with six-year financing to reduce the key rate by 12 cents. If approved the annual insurance savings reach 48000, funding a new North Amarillo station and longer hose to cover 97000 feet. Eight to nine men and one truck serve each of three stations North Amarillo San Jacinto and West Sixteenth.

Santa Fe officials report that the Los Angeles to Chicago Missionary derailed near Hesperia California after spikes were removed and rail connections unbolted. At least two passengers injured including Mrs. J. Mackie and W. H. Burbage. Deputies found missing spikes and no suspect identified as relief trains rushed to the scene.
Six persons were killed early today when a Soo Line train hit an automobile carrying seven passengers at a grade crossing in Oak Park near Chicago. The car stopped for one train and then went into the path of the other. the dead include Henry Olsen the driver and members of the Olsen family.
American child star Jackie Coogan is sick in Berlin today with influenza. The illness followed a Christmas thrill as he ran barefoot in his hotel room admiring a steam engine electric train and toy airplane.
Raymondville officers raid a Lyford distillery in a site on a bee farm. A 60 gallon copper still and three barrels of mash are seized along with a 50 gallon jug and 6 000 empty bottles. Two men are arrested as Ranger Tom Herd City Marshal George W. McDougald and deputy Sheriff Lee Durham lead the raid through bee hives to the plant.
Republican presidential electors from Texas received final instructions from state headquarters in Dallas as they prepare to meet in Austin on January 2. The article notes their unfamiliarity with duties created by Hoover's victory amid years of Democratic dominance. A separate brief from Alexandria, Louisiana reports 18 year old Willard Calhoun Williams of Colfax injured in a late December automobile accident.
Funeral rites for J. Raymond Bedford, former Bedford resident and brother of Mrs. Henry Ansley, will be held Friday at 2 PM from Griggs Funeral chapel. Rev. R Thomeen and Rev. F A Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Liano Cemetery. Bedford died in Albuquerque after a heart attack while en route to Amarillo for Christmas. He had worked in The News editorial department years ago. The body arrived in town this morning and is in state at Griggs chapel until noon tomorrow. Pallbearers named. The survivor list includes his widow and Mrs Ansley.
In St Louis on December 27 two robbers held up the Bank of Manchester, kidnapped the cashier and assistant cashier, and fled with about $6,000. The officers were later released after being driven a mile from the bank in the robbers' car. The earlier December 4 theft saw $3,664 taken.
Roy Sinor, 24, manager of a Pampa theater, died from burns after gas in his office exploded and set his clothing ablaze. Last rites planned in Elk City Oklahoma. In Tyler Texas two brothers faced assault with intent to murder charges after a family altercation during which Perdue was alleged to shoot Karl.
United Press reports nearly 2,000 deaths from influenza or pneumonia in 78 large U.S. cities last week. The commerce department tallies 1,982 deaths for the week ending December 22 and 1,202,810 estimated new cases nationally, with state totals listing Rhode Island New York Ohio Minnesota Virginia West Virginia Georgia Tennessee Alabama Mississippi Oklahoma Idaho Wyoming California and others.
