A bipartisan group in Congress aims to push farm relief after Christmas to meet President Coolidge's wishes. Leaders hope to rally farm bloc support, but many bloc members oppose the plan, fearing it may not pass.
A United Press survey shows 179 deaths from traffic accidents, fires, fireworks and poison liquor during the Christmas period. The count includes 102 traffic deaths, 91 from fire and fireworks, 12 poison liquor, and 24 hunting incidents, with many areas still reporting.
Tonight and Thursday in Oklahoma show generally fair skies with cooler temperatures. Highs and lows are listed with scattered hourly readings and a note of colder conditions in the northwest area tonight.
Jane Addams founder of Hull House in Chicago has been ill for a fortnight with bronchitis. Physicians report the critical stage has passed and her condition is much improved. She is 68 years old. Griggs ambulance. Phone 4811.
Roy Sinor theater manager was severely burned in a gas explosion at his Pampa Texas office. He fled into the street before bystander help could save him. His wife and child were visiting in Sayre Oklahoma.
The Grand Canyon area reports the disappearance of Mr and Mrs Glenn Hyde who attempted to run the Colorado River in an open boat. Hyde tracks were seen at Ruby Canyon Rapids on December 11 and a search by two expeditions, aided by army planes, contends with Separation Rapids where the scow may be snagged.
Dr. D. B. Johnson aged 72, longtime southern educator and president of Winthrop College for Women in Rock Hill, died after a lengthy illness. A hotel fire in Tidaholm Sweden on Christmas Day killed five women and a child.

Retiring Potter County officials express no concrete plans for life after office. Sheriff Wiley Pollard and Sheriff elect Will Thompson say they will decide after January 1. County Clerk Ed Pittman notes workload delays, while District Attorney W J Flesher plans to stay in Amarillo and may join a law firm. Old officials relinquish duties at 10 am January 1.
New York December 26 A survey by the Moderation League shows police records in 388 cities rising from 235 612 arrests for intoxication in 1920 to 557 369 in 1927 The league says the Volstead Act failed to promote temperance and sobriety and notes increased drinking by minors across the period
President Coolidge and Mrs. Coolidge arrived in Brunswick Georgia at 9 am and immediately departed for Sapelo Island as guests of Howard Coffin. The party included aides and a painter, with a citizens committee greeting them amid cheers and a featured Chow dog Tiny Tim.
Patrolman Tom Bush announced that about 100 Christmas packages remain after 2,400 were distributed at the tree on East Fourth Street. Any Potter County child missed by Santa may call the 108 East Fourth Street location to receive a large package. City departments praised donors and volunteers who helped make the event a success, noting more than 600 names on the donor book.

The U S public health service reports more than 150000 new influenza cases for the week ending December 22, with Iowa contributing about 85000 and 18 states in total. Based on past data the service estimates actual cases in the reporting territory exceeded 420000 that week.
Hannibal Missouri reports Mrs Laura Frazer, 91, longtime Hannibal resident and Mark Twain’s childhood peer who inspired Becky Thatcher, died at her son Judge L B Frazer’s home. She was daughter of Elijah and Sophia Hawkins, early city settlers, widow of Dr James W Frazer, survived by her son, president of Hannibal Trust Co.
The Florence Luckenbach ran aground on Clatsop Spit near the Columbia river mouth in a storm. Two tugs were sent to assist as seas broke over the ship. It was en route to New Orleans Houston and Mobile when it left the channel at 5 20 am. A fifty mile gale hindered rescue efforts at the scene.
