London dispatch reports the king, five weeks ill, showing no afternoon improvement after a fair night. Doctors note infection in the right lung improved yet his general condition lags. Prince of Wales visits the palace. Princess Mary postpones Harewood House visit where her sons reside.
Arthur Brisbane discusses big churches and dominance, inflation, and the value of spending. He cites Rockefeller Ford Beaverbrook and Henry Ford, notes 700000 influenza cases, and imagines future aviation where small planes fuel larger ones. (Continued on page two)

New Mexico region forecasts cloudy unsettled conditions tonight and Saturday with slight cooling. Temperatures range from 40s overnight to near 68 by afternoon, similar to last year’s 34 to 65 range. Temperatures by hour show gradual warming through the day. Sunrise is 7:55 tomorrow.
Dallas on December 28 saw Ben Crads Richards indicted for a second time over the September 1 death of Dallas banker Orville L Mathews tied to an election bet. A second indictment charged A A Crabb with forgery.
Dispatches from Guadalajara report 27 insurgents killed in four engagements with Federal forces in Jalisco. The heaviest fighting occurred at Los Capellanos with 15 insurgents killed, one soldier and two army officers killed, and two soldiers wounded. The insurgents were dispersed.
Rev. H. G. Kenney of First Presbyterian Cameron Texas was summoned to appear before the Central Texas Presbytery in Temple January 4 to answer possible heresy charges. He defends his views, cites Fosdick influence, and blames a “little clique” at the church for the trouble.
Funeral rites for J Raymond Bedford former resident and brother of Mrs Henry Ansley are held at Griggs chapel at 2 PM with Rev R Thomson and Rev F A Foster officiating. Burial is Llano cemetery with Amarillo pallbearers. Bedford a former Daily News employee and Certain Teed representative died of a heart attack in an Albuquerque hotel while en route to Amarillo for Christmas. The widow and Mrs Ansley survive.
Governor Moody named A. D. Montgomery of Wichita Falls as district judge of the 80th district. He succeeds E. G. Thornton who resigned from the Wichita Falls position.
SAPELO ISLAND Ga Dec 28 Mrs Coolidge plans her first hunting trip joining the President for a quail hunt that morning to noon or longer A small calibre gun from the Coffin estate arsenal will be used as she competes with the President on the forested island rich in game.
President J Loudon of the League of Nations disarmament commission announced the meeting date set for April 15. The notice appears in the Geneva dispatch with Griggs Ambulance contact listed as 4311.
Governor Moody announced Claude D. Teer as a new member of the State Highway Commission board of control replacing Dr H H Harrington. Harrington’s six year term had lapsed but was extended. Teer will serve five years of the unexpired period after resigning from the House of Representatives where he served ten years.
President elect Herbert Hoover is expected to tour Texas before his inauguration. Leonard Withington, Texas Republican director, said he had word from National Committeeman R B Creager that Hoover would seek a Texas visit despite returning to Washington from a South American goodwill tour.
Ed R. Mayer reports Amarillo will appear on all official U S government airway maps after presenting progress on the municipal airport at the National Air Exposition in Chicago. Mayer met with the secretary of the national air transportation committee and said Amarillo’s field will gain national advertising and benefit Panhandle development.
A railroad worker arriving from the desert north of the Salton Sea reported a large single engine air craft had landed nearby in need of aid. He believes the Albatross used by Charles Rocheville and John Guglementi for a world endurance record flight departed El Centro two hours earlier.
In Marshall Texas Glenn Wade of Dallas died after a drum of compressed air used with a paint spray gun exploded as he bent over it. In Denver Colorado C B Taggart, 30, plunged sixty feet from a smoke stack while dismantling a chimney for a new Federal building and suffered fatal internal injuries.
Judge Henry 8 Bishop swore in a three member jury commission to pick petit and grand jurors for the January term of District criminal court. Members E L Richardson W M Clary and L DeFoe will select a petit jury for ten weeks starting January 28, using lists from District Clerk J C Skillman and ensuring all candidates are qualified for service.
Austin December 28 The Attorney General opinion says Texas University oil lands scheduled for sale January 2 on 108 000 acres can be postponed to a later January date. The regular legislative session begins January 8, making a special session unnecessary. The land office will await action by Land Commissioner J T Robison and the governor.
Governor Moody was expected to decide today whether to call a special session of the Texas legislature to block leasing of 103000 acres of university oil lands. He returned from a hunting trip and planned to confer with aides before acting on the Regents request.
J D Duvall a 55 year old carpenter sergeant at the Mississippi state prison farm was found murdered in his bed. His 18 year old daughter Ruth was missing and a trusted inmate Charley Shephard was sought by posses with bloodhounds. Authorities suspect foul play and say Shephard may have killed Duvall and carried her away.
