Fake Cop Caught Flat Footed by Park Encounter

EW YORK no 24 UP Detective Stephen J Wall sat on a park bench when a stranger posed as a cop and a bookie asking for a bribe. Wall paid $20 but raised it to $30 then arrested the man Thomas Maloney 36 who claimed he needed cash for a lawyer while out on bail from prison.

Shaller Funeral Planned as Collision Kills Oilman

Charles Claude Shaller 63, oilman and rancher of Canadian, killed in a Highway 66 crash near Alaneed. Services planned in Canadian Sunday with burial Monday in Amarillo. Shaller, a Texas University graduate and former head of the Oklahoma Cattle Breeders Association, leaves wife Bertha May and son Orville, plus siblings and other relatives.

Blackout Hits Borger After Riverview Plant Failure

A large power generator failure at Southwestern Public Service Riverview Plant plunged Borger and Phillips into a 45 minute blackout from 9:44 to 10:30 PM. A second generator went on line to restore service. Telephone switching was hindered as numbers could not be read. KHUZ radio stayed on air using an emergency generator.

The South Amarillo Lions Club presented three braille watches to blind residents at a meeting.
