A testimony describes commodity futures concepts hedging spreading and long and short positions. The report also covers a fatal car train collision at a Grand Avenue crossing where a 1941 Pontiac was struck by a Rock Island freight train, killing one and injuring three others.
Five riders were in a northbound 1941 Pontiac coupe when a train struck the vehicle at the Rock Island crossing on Grand Avenue. Louis Milton Brazil 20 of Happy was killed. Melvin Schaeffer 23 suffered minor injuries. Thelma Bauer 19 Mary Morris 19 and Virginia Lee Moorehead 18 were seriously injured with fractures. Brazil’s body was run over by the freight as it rolled several hundred feet before stopping. Surviving victims were rushed to St. Anthony's Hospital. Funeral services for Brazil will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at First Methodist Canyon. Burial in Dreamland Cemetery Canyon under Boxwell Brothers.
United Press reports a violent weekend in Texas left at least 30 dead. Victims include auto crash victims across multiple cities, a drowning, a gunfire death, and several homicides under investigation. Nobly named victims span Wichita Falls to Brownfield and Houston.
Weather observations show Amarillo has a four to one chance of snow on Christmas Day. In 56 years only 15 Christmas days were white or near white, with the record snow of 1918 totaling 21 inches. Forecaster H C Winburn notes the latest forecast expects clear skies and cooler temperatures with highs around 53 today and 51 tomorrow.
A White House source says President Truman has begun his fight for price control and rationing powers to curb the high cost of living. He will sign the Republican passed anti-inflation bill reluctantly and push new measures in January and in forthcoming economic and state of the union messages.

Former Japanese premier Hideki Tojo will testify in his defense at the Far East International Military Tribunal. He is expected to take full responsibility for Pearl Harbor and the war, while possibly shielding Emperor Hirohito. Shigenori Togo testified on the emperor's consent to send Roosevelt’s reply, with Kido also a defendant. The trial drags toward a projected next summer conclusion.

Justice Department officials said Attorney General Tom Clark has ordered an investigation of GI home building operations in Dallas. The move follows reports alleging irregularities in construction and financing. Authorities declined further comment.

A collision at Seventh and Buchanan left three people hurt. Mrs. M. Davis suffered serious injuries while Mrs. Calvin L. Hanson and her four month old son sustained less serious injuries. The 1931 Ford carrying the Hansons was hit by a 1947 Dodge driven by H P Palmer. The injured were taken to St Anthony's Hospital by Clarendon ambulance.
Weather service issues storm warnings from northern California to Puget Sound as an intense gale moves in from a center about 700 miles at sea. The system threatens coastal areas with high winds and rough seas as of December 22.
