Funeral services were held at Portales Methodist Church for Venita Ray Bousman 16 month old daughter of Mr and Mrs C T Bousman. A bean lodged in her throat causing lung obstruction and heart strain. She died in Amarillo from heart failure after treatment failed. Burial plans followed in Portales.
With Amarillo schools closed for Christmas, extra police will patrol the business district. Sid Harper, captain of the traffic squad, said school zone officers will work in the district focusing on parked cars to curb package theft. Detective Captain Leo Yselding notes heightened theft complaints this season.
Uvalde reports Suttle of New Braunfels wounded accidentally while deer hunting near Uvalde. His rifle discharged as he rattled antlers in a tree, grazing his leg and lodging in his abdomen. He was recovering in a local hospital.

Henry D. Baker 46 died after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel with Rev. R. Thomson of Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. He owned Angelus Pharmacy at Sixth Avenue and Van Buren for 10 years and came to Amarillo 11 years ago. He served in World War II as a sergeant first class and was a member of several fraternal and veterans organizations. Surviving are his widow, a son Robert S. Baker of Amarillo and a daughter in Raleigh, N C Mrs Walter Perry.
Mrs. Gusta Morrison was charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated in Justice of the Peace H. W. Duke's court. Bond was set at $1,000 after police chased a car operating without lights. she was jailed and arraigned before Judge Duke this morning.
The city hall works on the largest WPA paving effort in Amarillo with applications and block petitions for street improvements. Since WPA began, miles of paving have been built and more petitions come at each city commission meeting. Property owners pay for materials only at about $1.20 per front foot for paving curb and gutter.
Amarillo Legionnaires are urged to report promptly for tomorrow night’s regular Hanson Post meeting. Final arrangements for the Legion’s Christmas party for the city’s worthy poor will be made after the 7:30 p.m. meeting in the Legion Hall at Municipal Auditorium with a dance to follow announced adjutant J T McEnteg wart.
Kansas City December reports twenty-eight men in a Ford caravan were arrested after sheriff's deputies stopped the group and seized shotguns pistols and blackjacks en route to the labor troubled Ford assembly plant. The strike began December 10 by the United Automobile Workers amid frequent clashes with rival groups. Two constables and a man were wounded in Friday street fights.
Vernon will host the Northern Division state Band Contest April 21-23, sponsored by the Texas Band and Orchestra Association. The contest centers rotate yearly. Vernon becomes the 1934 center for the district, with Amarillo and Pampa among past hosts. First division winners advance to Region Six in Abilene, facing New Mexico and Oklahoma. Oscar Wise plans Verdi overture La Forza Del Destino as an optional Class A number. Amarillo High faces Pampa and Plainview.
H. A. Morrow was brought back from Sonora Texas by the sheriff to face a charge of removing mortgaged property. The filing occurred in Justice H. W. Duke's court on November 27 and named an automobile as the property involved.
Amarillo College music and languages professor Dr H L Robinson was elected to Phi Beta Kappa the highest scholastic honor for graduates The University of California bestowed the recognition after he earned his degree in 1932
The Myers Music Mart accordion band under Evelyn Kennedy Myers performs at 8 15 in the Amarillo College of Music Auditorium. Special Christmas selections will be played and prize pins awarded to pupils with honors from the attendance practice contest. The public is invited.
Amarillo may license its dance halls after the city commission instructs corporation counsel to study a recent Dallas regulation. In Dallas, dance halls are licensed and classified by floor space, and a report on that ordinance is expected to be submitted to the city commission tomorrow night.
Hollywood gossip notes Beatrice Lillie famed comedienne and widow Lady Peel enjoys film work with Bing Crosby. She says success lies in tossing dignity out the window and having fun, even as she shoots scenes where she is kicked around.
Babies and preschool children from health unit families will attend a 1:30 p.m. Thursday Christmas party in Polk Street Methodist Church parlors. The party is sponsored by the baby clinic volunteers who meet each Monday at the health unit. No clinic was held today due to holiday preparations.
Japanese surface craft fired on the Panay after aerial bombardment. Panay and Standard lay anchored and visible to troops ashore. Panay did not fire first. Panay abandoned and was machine gunned by Japanese boats. Far East focus moved to Chekiang Anwhei, with an offensive map against central China and a drive from Tsingtao toward Canton. Three U.S. warships stood by at Tsingtao to evacuate about 300 Americans if needed.
Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told Parliament that Japan accepts in principle liability for casualties among British soldiers and sailors in China. Details are under discussion. Suggestions were made by Britain the United States and France to create a safety zone at Hankow for Chinese government and foreign embassy staff.
Final honors were paid to Robert Worth Bingham by his state nation and the British empire to which he was accredited as ambassador. The North Carolinian adopted Louisville as home for 40 years, and his body was brought back from Baltimore where he died Saturday night, accompanied by representatives of President Roosevelt the state department and Great Britain.
Amarillo children prepare for Christmas with classroom programs from elementary through junior high. Sam Houston Junior High held an assembly with glee clubs and a one act play. St Mary’s Academy and St Mary’s High School host Christmas events, while Amarillo College plans a pre holiday dance. All schools close Wednesday afternoon with studies resuming January 3.

White House staff begin their busiest period since the inauguration with a Christmas Eve handshake planned. Christmas trees will be put up over the next three days as Mrs. Roosevelt returns from New York and John Roosevelt arrives from Harvard. Visitors include Mrs. Roosevelt’s brother Hall Roosevelt and Mrs. Delano Roosevelt, plus the President’s mother and sister-in-law. Trucks deliver Christmas cards and packages for the First Family as clerks sort and log gifts for the tree.
