Lyle slated for place on Rules Committee

Washington reports Texas poised for a second seat on the House Rules Committee with John E. Lyle Jr. of Corpus Christi favored. If confirmed, he would be the first Texan on the panel since Martin Dies. The panel guides bills from other committees and can block measures. Lyle’s independence on roll calls is noted, but aides say he would back majority floor action. Combs of Beaumont is expected to take West’s Ways and Means seat. Fisher of San Angelo may yield to avoid friction. Texans in Congress are praised for settling differences privately, strengthening the delegation.
