A dust-filled gale grips Amarillo and the Panhandle for two days. A cold front is expected to move in late Thursday evening or Friday morning, bringing relief. Winds Thursday ranged 30 to 35 mph with gusts to 45, while downtown readings fluctuated 15 to 60 mph and even 65 to 70 mph near midnight Wednesday.
Late last night many Amarillo sections saw lights dim or go out as power lines brushed by from a fierce gale. The storm center, affecting eastern New Mexico, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and much of Kansas, moves into the state from the west.
The YWCA advance gift committee launches a $600000 building fund drive in Amarillo. Chairwoman Mrs. Erwin C. Oschner leads a kickoff with 40 workers. The steering chair notes need for recreation and education for about 20000 girls and young women. The advance gifts target $150000 over three years to start replacing crowded facilities.
In Tehran a five hour battle between about 5 000 pro Communist students and 2 000 police plus Nationalist supporters left at least three dead and over 200 injured. Police used tear gas, water hoses, and clubs while Nationalists backed by crowds overwhelmed red forces. Over 120 protesters were arrested as violence surged around Tehran University and the Majlis.
Sen Styles Bridges of New Hampshire said he might take the Republican floor leader post if colleagues deem him the logical choice. He stressed he is not a candidate but would accept to aid party unity, and noted he would not seek the vacancy created by Sen Kenneth Wherry's death.
Reports from Manila indicate Mt Hibok Hibok on Camiguin Island erupted again, with 186 bodies recovered and 14 more dug from ash at the mountain base. Thousands evacuated as the 4,370 foot volcano continues active, though Red Cross disaster head Dr Joaquin Canuto says there is no cause for alarm. The island population is about 66,000.
The Weather Bureau reports jindy and cooler conditions with strong shifting winds and colder tonight. Friday brings fair skies but continued cold with high today 55 and high Friday 47, low 27 tonight and 37 by morning. Panhandle outlook calls for windy, cold trends. West Texas shows partly cloudy and colder days with frigid nights from 25 to 37 degrees. New Mexico sees light showers or snow flurries mainly in mountains with colder, windy conditions.

In Texas, testimony continues in the L. D. Stevens trial for the Aug 11 killing of 85-year-old Joshua Blocher as investigators detail the weapon and circumstances surrounding the hermit’s death.
Police faced a rash of alleged holiday thefts with three incidents Wednesday night and Thursday. White and Kirk reported a woman's smock valued at four dollars stolen by four shoplifters. A sports coat and gabardine coat worth twenty dollars were taken from L. W. Kirby’s hotel room. R. L. Cathy's car at a hospital had a new spare wheel and tire stolen from the trunk.
London reports Prime Minister Churchill and Foreign Secretary Eden will visit Paris on December 17 for talks with Premier Rene Pleven and Foreign Secretary Robert Schuman. The British aim to hear French views on mutual problems before discussing them next month with President Truman in Washington.
Fay Aunt Burden, 30, who had been missing since Tuesday while coon hunting, walked into his Abilene home yesterday as a search had been underway. He said he could be out two or three days and urged people to know.

Larry Knohl of New York, once linked to T. Lamar Caudle while he led the Justice Department tax division, told House investigators it is possible he made as much as 25 000 from gambling last year. He acknowledged contact with "Mr. Costello" in New York and said he sold Costello some oil. Knohl previously appeared during Caudle testimony as an investigator for a New York businessman facing tax issues.
Archbishop Aloysius Stepinac, freed after five years in prison, said he would relinquish his high office only if the Holy Father requests it. He spoke after celebrating his first mass as a free man in Krasic, denouncing radio labels as inaccurate and insisting he acts under no pressure. He had been imprisoned on collaboration charges with Croatia’s wartime puppet regime.
Prime Minister Winston Churchill said Britain would not flinch if it becomes necessary to use American atomic bomb planes from British bases against Soviet Russia. The Wage Stabilization Board approved 15 cent hourly wage increases for many workers in copper, lead, and zinc mining and refining industries.
