Tech. Sgt. Jimmy E. McCurdy will receive the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously in a 10 AM ceremony at Amarillo Air Force Base. His father Earl McCurdy and brother J. R. McCurdy will attend, with Col. Ray H. Clark presiding. The citation recalls his heroism as a B 17 waist gunner on July 30 1943 over Continental Europe.
The highest devotion to duty award, the DFC, will be presented by Colonel Clark at Amarillo Air Force Base marking the first national hero recognition since reactivation. Gates open to the public with hangar 6,000 ready for weather, and about 60 Amarillo civic leaders will review on the flight line.
