Bee Hobby Endangered as DDT Kills Hives at Canyon Cliff
J B McFarland of 408 Virginia loses two beehives this summer to DDT sprays near his home. Bees drift to a cliffside canyon after moving from a shaded yard hive. He keeps bees as a hobby, not a business, and notes bees need sun and rain for nectar while winds hinder foraging. His work with the Monroe Calculating Machine Co. includes a record sales month and regional reach.
