The U N Security Council called again for a halt to hostilities in the East Indies with a 10 to 0 vote, Britain abstaining. The decision follows violations of a ceasefire and debates over UN intervention amid Indonesian Dutch fighting.
In Wichita Kansas on August 26 a man assaulted his wife with a 1930 model truck after an argument. He backed the vehicle into her and then offered to drive her to the hospital. The wife suffered minor lacerations and bruises.
More than 100 peace officers hunted the Brazos River bottoms after 42 inmates escaped two Texas prison farms. Twenty one convicts remained at large as a tropical storm aided the mass breakout at Ramsey Prison Farm. two whites escaped from Harlem Farm near Sugarland.
Eight year old Donald Carpenter was hospitalized at Northwest Texas Hospital after injuring his right leg by pounding a .30-30 cartridge with a brick. He is the son of Mr and Mrs George Carpenter of 81 Kentucky. The accident occurred at his home just before noon.
City transport chief Lefty Fowler announced a new North Hughes route in Amarillo. The bus will enter the business district via West Third and turn south at Tyler to Fourth Avenue then east to Taylor Street before proceeding north to Taylor and Harrison Streets.
Mrs. Della Baggett Timmons of Amarillo died at 9 a m at her home 709 Harrison aged 75. She had lived in Amarillo since 1899 and in the Panhandle longer. She was wife of Cyrus C Timmons with son Albert and daughter Mrs Edwin C Hart among survivors. Funeral plans pending. Learn to skate Tuesday at Roller Palace.

Chicago Aug 26 A 26 year old war widow Mrs Elsie Gerard battled a six foot tall intruder who seized 3 month old Laurie Ann Moses from a crib at James H Moses advertising manager of a plastics firm home. She fought five minutes, was assaulted and choked but the baby escaped unharmed. Police later found the nurse unconscious. the attacker fled.
Reconnaissance flights over Wilmington prepared the city for DDT spraying to halt a paralytic epidemic that has affected 75 people in Delaware. Three Army training planes provided by the Public Health Service will carry out the spraying this afternoon.
Ford Motor Company announced price increases for Lincoln and Mercury vehicles ranging from 86 to 229 dollars with wagons and convertibles affected. The boosts follow recent rises of 20 to 97 dollars on Ford cars and trucks and average 6 percent on Lincoln and 8.9 percent on Mercury.
Leroy Tex Chivers, 17, is charged with murder with malice in the shooting death of his step-mother Mrs Norman Chivers at their Borger home 1012 Cable. The weapon a .22 rifle with bullets piercing head neck and right shoulder. He fled to Copeland Jewelry Co before being arrested. The body lies at Minton Funeral Home pending arrangements.
