Dallas August 25 Mrs Miriam A Ferguson of Temple wife of former Governor James E Ferguson won the Texas Democratic nomination for governor after a runoff primary defeating Felix D Robertson of Dallas by a large majority Robertson was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan She received a telegram of congratulations from Robertson and issued a statement arguing that Democratic victory hinges on understanding that the party platform condemns religious intolerance and opposes the Ku Klux Klan.
August 25 Vacheria Louisiana eight people die when a wind storm tears through the old St Phillip church during a festival crowd. Survivors include Mary Havydel and Stephen Haydel family members among the deceased and injured. Funeral services planned at the new church.
Returns from 251 of 252 counties show Ferguson leading Robertson for governor with 410 505 to 29 095.
