Texas Legion Endorses Patched Policies and Elects State Commander
The Texas American Legion convention in Brownwood elected Mark McGee of Ishsa A. Smith Post Brownwood as state commander and chose Fort Worth as the 1926 meeting site. Mrs. M. W. Armstrong Brownwood was elected Legion Auxiliary president, and C. Christian of Denison became a vice commander. Resolutions urged conscripting wealth and labor in war, selling Kerrville hospital to the U S government, replacing able bodied attendants with disabled veterans in Washington, endorsing Boy Scouts, and funding widows’ pensions and the National Defense Act. Legislative proposals included funding war relief transportation and insuring care for insane veterans, with a push for foreign language papers to include English translations. Amarillo signaled a bid for next year’s meeting despite Fort Worth hosting.
