A 14 member Fort Worth committee surveying the Texas Panhandle Gulf railroad path stopped in Amarillo at noon on return from Tucumcari. They traveled by car along the proposed route and praised the project saying farmers along the line would benefit from the road. The 500 mile line would cross rich lands in Texas and Rotary club members greeted them at Rock Island station with well wishes.
In Willy Foster New York an attempted heist on a New York Central train with a mail car defense system featured six mock bandits. The staged raid ended with three “killed,” two captured and one escaped, all actors from the post office on special duty. Government officials watched as riot guns shields and flares were demonstrated, prompting plans to outfit 4,000 mail coaches with similar gear.
A Santa Fe locomotive engineer A Taylor, 27, of 1103 Lincoln Street was killed last night near Curtis Oklahoma after falling from the tender to the tracks while the fruit train was moving. The crew found his body west of Curtis and took it to Woodward. he leaves a widow and one child and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers.
Texas Ranger J W McCormick was sent from Wichita Falls to Childress to assist in the investigation of the killing of Mel J Dwight sheriff candidate found with a bullet in his head. Ranger McCormick was ordered by General Barton to aid in the probe.
Four people are believed killed and one injured after a Philadelphia and Reading passenger train struck a truck in Cranford New Jersey. The collision derailed the engine, turned it, and toppled two passenger coaches. Authorities report extensive wreckage and investigation begun at the scene.
The forecast calls for showers tonight and tomorrow with cooler temperatures. Today’s high reached 90 degrees, one degree above last year, while the day's low was 72 compared to 61 last year.
Amarillo business leaders vow to secure ample surface water to attract large industries for the Amarillo Gas company. They favor damming Palo Duro Canyon to create a vast reservoir, ensuring local gas use and industrial growth.
Charles R. McAfee of Green Bros. Co reports six Panhandle counties will produce about 15 million dollars in cotton this year. He praises Hale and other counties for superb crops and predicts the region will become a leading cotton area in the state. J. H. The Amarillo Globe reports the birth of Globe Clarence Martin at 1 30 this morning to Mr and Mrs Clarence Martin. Globe Martin, a husky healthy boy, is six months old yesterday for the Globe paper’s birthday, and the paper mails a $25 check as a birthday remembrance.
