Expect Higher County Taxes
The county tax rate is likely to rise about a nickel per $100 valuation this year. Last year the rate was 54 cents, while the state rate was 58 cents and has been raised to 5 cents. The state auto tax board sets the state rate. county commissioners fix the local rate after a public budget hearing. Increased values from new construction imply the present 54 cents will not cover the needs, including $12,000 due on bonds. A 4 to 5 cent county tax hike is anticipated to fund the budget.
