Racing Champion Dies of Injuries
Syracuse news reports Jack Pops Cooper a famed speedboat racer died from injuries after a Lake Ontario accident. He was 68 and had held world records in the 225 cubic inch hydroplane class. The fatal crash occurred during the Picton Ontario Regatta on August 2 when his boat flipped and overturned.

Krause Captures Rogue Crown Fifth Time in Long Beach
Frank Krause of Long Beach won his fifth Rogue national title and second straight with a 32-16 victory over Wallace Martin of Waco to clinch the championship. Krause finished 14 wins, two losses in the 12 day tourney. Martin defeated Bobby Arnold of Los Angeles 32-27 in a playoff for second place.
