In Wheeler Texas the first Panhandle field trials draw 150 blooded dogs with Oklahoma Nell winning the amateur derby after a run-off. Goldie trained by John Short of Amarillo finished second and Miss Calvert third. The event runs today through Thursday on the McAdams ranch six miles north of Wheeler.

In Niles Ohio on August 12 a historic peace accord was signed by Ku Klux Klan members and the Knights of the Flaming Circle an anti klan group ending a series of clashes since May 9 The agreement calls for both sides to bury the hatchet and promote peace in the community.
