Mrs Ruth Hobart denies a Plainview district court order giving custody of her son Ernest McDuffie to his father. The Plainview Herald and The Globe had reported such an order, but Hobart says there is not a word of truth in the claim.
Col. H C Harding prepared to travel to Santa Fe to plead for life of TM Lafavors and Hollis Smetcher, Amarillo youths sentenced to death for Sheriff Richardsons murder. Mrs Shaffer in Santa Fe aims to secure signatures from Alamagordo prosecutors to commute the sentence. Governor Hinkle indicated possible commutation if signatures are obtained.
Mrs. J. L. Landrum of the state board of agriculture and the Oklahoma market commission said Oklahoma will bring an extensive exhibit to the Amarillo Tri-State exposition. J. A. Whitehurst, president of the board, will attend for one day with plans and blueprints to share with Oklahoma leaders. He expects cordial cooperation among Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico for a successful fair.
Shanghai reports devastating floods effecting widespread areas of China. Fifty thousand rendered homeless and at least five thousand drowned as tens of thousands of villages submerged. Refugees flood into Peking with fatalities possibly around sixty thousand.
Barnette Gunn, former Levelland postmaster, was released on a $5,000 bond after being held in Potter County jail on a federal warrant charging misappropriation of funds from the Levelland post office. Bond signed by Levelland citizens.
The Plains Paving company was awarded the contract to repair pavement on Pierce Street between Tenth and Twelfth streets by the city commission. City hall paid monthly bills and early month salaries, and HW Banks Jones reported final plans for the East Tenth Street viaduct awaiting road head official and railway agreement.
Rep Dan Anthony from the first district and stockholder of The Amarillo Globe will visit Amarillo next Monday to explore investment opportunities in the city. The Republican congressman plans a forthcoming trip based on his favorable view of Amarillo.
Ex-Governor James E. Ferguson and likely Mrs. Ferguson will address Panhandle voters Tuesday night August 19 at the Municipal auditorium. Col Will A. Miller expects the venue to fill with the largest crowd of the year as music by Dave Derden’s band precedes Ferguson’s 8 o clock speech. One Panhandle town pledges 100 cars of voters, with twenty counties possibly represented.
Lightning ignited a 55 000 barrel Magnolia Petroleum oil tank three miles southeast of Corsicana Texas. The tank burned fiercely at 11 o’clock as heavy rain and a respite from drought fell on Navarro county. Streets in Corsicana were flooded.
At Fort Worth August 13 the Texas Republican convention adopted a short anti Klan platform. A full ticket led by T. M. Kennerly of Houston for senator and T. P. Lee of Houston for governor was nominated. Debate on the Klan plank was shut off by Chairman Charles Boynton. The new state executive committee includes H. S. Exum of Amarillo.

A hearing on the proposed Harrison street paving from Twenty fourth to Twenty ninth street is set for 2 o clock Tuesday August 26. The session addresses complaints from property owners about the project and is ordered by the commission.
Seven ten foot boa constrictors escaped their cages aboard the steamship Bhli Var during a storm and kept thirty two crew and eight passengers along with monkeys macaws and screamers awake for four days. The reptiles broke loose after birds in cages screamed to warn of the danger upon arrival at New York on August 13.
The Potter County commissioners named John F Speed as county traffic officer and superintendent of county roads, consolidating the two roles. Speed, a former sheriff candidate, succeeds the late Branch Anderson. The board also reappointed Willie Lee Martin as librarian and Anna Bower as home demonstration agent, praising their service.
A quake rocked western Honda and Shikoku towns forcing residents from homes. Nagoya reports water mains broken cutting water supply and flooding streets. No casualties reported amid rising alarm.
Mrs. L. K. White, severely injured in a Wichita Falls auto crash Monday night, shows slight improvement though remains critically ill. Her son-in-law H. L. Kearns reports from Wichita Falls as Mrs. White, of the White and Kirk firm, recovers in General Hospital with family at her bedside.
The Kiwanis club will travel to Plainview next week for an inter-city Kiwanis meeting. The club approved paying expenses for an orchestra arranged by Dave Derden and planned a trip after the 1925 district Kiwanis meeting. A large delegation is expected for the Lawton Oklahoma district convention. A fifteen minute orchestra program marked today’s long business session.
Funeral services for H. Reid, who died yesterday while working at the Amarillo hotel, will be held in the chapel of Griggs Undertaking company at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. Stanley W. Hayne will officiate and burial will be in Liano cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Fletcher returned from a two week outing in Colorado and say a man tried to jump onto their car on a public highway between Boulder and Denver. He demanded entry claiming someone was robbing him. The couple sped up to about thirty mph and pushed the man off the running board.
Tonight and tomorrow will be partly cloudy and warmer. The daytime high reached 80 today versus 96 a year ago, while this morning’s low was 65 compared with 67 last year.
