Mrs. Lucetta Faulkner aged 75 died at 4 15 yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs. E L Murphy 603 Washington street. She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Murphy of Amarillo and Miss Effie Faulkner of Oklahoma City and a son W M Kirkham of Clyde Texas. Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock tomorrow in the Griggs Undertaking chapel with Rev Stanley W Hayne and Rev G L Yates officiating. Burial will be in Llano cemetery.
In El Paso on August 11 a four story S. H. Kress department store building was threatened by flames. Nine fire companies battled the blaze as wind drove it toward adjoining structures and the building appeared likely to be destroyed.
W S Lemly, past grand chancellor, arrives in Amarillo as representative of Charles Baughman grand chancellor to establish a Knights of Pythias lodge. He tours the city, praising local school equipment and expressing delight with Amarillo on his first visit.
Mrs. W. H. Shaffer visits her son BAH Lafavors in Santa Fe state penitentiary to plead for clemency. Lafavors, 19, was sentenced to die for killing a New Mexico sheriff. Governor Hinkle to be asked for life imprisonment. execution date set for August 22.
Tomorrow marks the start of the first annual three day Tri-State Field with over 200 dogs entered in five events. Entries include Members' All Age Members' Derby Open All Age and Open Derby plus a Gentlemen's Shooting Dog class with a trophy from Toney Chisum. Wheeler Chamber of Commerce arranged entertainment and refreshments as visitors are met at Canadian and Shamrock stations and shuttled to trial grounds six miles away.
Three people were killed and a fourth severely injured in a casing head gasoline plant explosion at Frankell in Eastland County, fourteen miles from Ranger, on Sunday afternoon.
Fort Worth August 11 The Republican state executive committee met to write preliminaries for the state convention select the temporary organization and consider contested claims. Leaders expected better attendance and interest than in recent years amid Democratic governor nomination chatter between Felix Robertson Mrs Miriam Ferguson and Lynch Davidson.
Thomas D. Nelson, scout executive, and three boys depart for the scout encampment to join others tomorrow. They will build a permanent camp on the Doleater place and be away for a few days.
Andrew S. Anderson Democratic nominee for South Dakota governor was killed when a bull charged him on his Beresford farm. Anderson had served in the state legislature since 1910, was twice reelected, and earlier declined a 1922 nomination but accepted this year.
Chicago August 11 The state challenged the defense theory that functional disorders of endocrine glands influenced Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold Jr in the Bobby Franks kidnapping and murder. Defense alienist Dr H S Hulbert used X ray images to show gland issues including thyroid adrenal pituitary and adrenals. Prosecution sought to weaken Hulbert by showing he relied on others notes and was busier than his usual practice.
The finance committee of the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition and the special guarantee plan committee led by R. B. Masterson held a morning meeting on the fair drive. A 3 o clock session was planned to finalize campaign plans as many business men contributed ideas to continue the drive.
Officers nabbed L. H. O Banion on a $15 counterfeit check at the RE Finklea store. Sheriff Whitaker planned to transport him from Lubbock to Amarillo, with the forged draft drawn on Abernathy State Bank and signed by E N Nowen.
The county commissioners will fix Potter county's tax rate tomorrow. The action aims to settle the rate for the upcoming levy and support municipal budgeting and services.
Amarillo police are instructed to arrest drivers delaying traffic on Polk Street by driving under ten miles an hour or over fifteen. Window shopping from cars is banned and spooning cars will be taboo. The city manager urges motorists to avoid Polk unless their speed stays between ten and fifteen miles per hour.
The State park board of five members and the Texas highway commission with three members will inspect Palo Duro canyons on August 31 to select sites for state and national parks linked by a scenic highway. Delegations include D. E. Colp chairing, with Mrs. Phoebe K. Warner secretary, and representatives Colp Hobart Key James Welden Mrs. W. C. Martin and others.
City commissioners report strong sentiment for restoring angle parking on Polk street to about 45 degrees. They cite increasing car numbers and downtown shoppers, and say angled parking could provide many more spaces on Polk street.

President Coolidge expressed amazement at a protest letter urging intervention against a New York congressional candidacy by a Black man. He reaffirmed equality under the Constitution and cited Roosevelt on not denying opportunity based on race or color. The reply, addressed to Charles R. Gardner of Fort Hamilton, defends noninterference in local politics.
Deputy Sheriff Davis reports a late night holdup at 1909 West Seventh Street where Mr and Mrs Haster and Miss Mary Roberts were robbed of about $20. Haster was arrested as an alleged accomplice. he claims only $4 was lost. Dr J Green testified seeing two men near Haster’s barn rehearsing a robbery. Green named Hessley as Haster.
