Hugh Exum of the state Republican committee is funding the local broadcast and urges Panhandle citizens to tune in.
Umpire Joe Toman recalls Richard Dix film set where he and Beane Reardon worked behind the plate. Toman says the lasting impression from the movietone production Warming Up is Jean Arthur, one of the prettiest actresses he has seen. Actors earned five to seven dollars a day in grandstands while players on set drew ten dollars daily. The twelve day shoot featured Richard Dix in the starring role.

A West Indian hurricane swept central Florida for 48 hours creating extensive damage from West Palm Beach to Melbourne and Tampa while unroofing homes and severing lines. The Jacksonville weather bureau said the storm moved toward the gulf with reduced speed and potential landfall near the east gulf coast. Three robbers robbed Muskogee's Citizens National Bank of about $5000 around noon today.
A freak storm on the Chicago lake shore caused five deaths amid a heat wave. Lightning struck a rock pile on a south side beach killing William Kilpatrick, 35, while his son suffered serious burns and a young woman bather was burned. The heat contributed to additional fatalities and drownings as humidity persisted.
Salina Kansas reports torrential rains inundated the east side residential area as Smoky River rose and flooded basements forcing evacuations. Smoky Hill and Suline rivers overflowed increasing flood damage and closing highways while business district danger loomed if waters did not recede.
Gene Tenney the heavyweight champion and later retiree is betrothed to Mary Josephine Lauder daughter of George Lauder Jr. The couple's engagement, long whispered, was confirmed by Lauder family friends as they plan autumn or winter nuptials in New York.
