Senate approves crackdown on hoarders and black marketeers

Watches and Cash Stolen From West Texas Wholesale Office

Burglars pried a rear door hasp to enter the West Texas Wholesale office at 910 West Sixth last night. The entire office was ransacked and 10 watches valued at 500 dollars plus 232 dollars in cash were stolen from a hidden box. Watches were taken from stock.

Truman's Man Lags In Voting in Missouri Primary

Missouri Sen Emery W Allison backed by President Truman trailed by about 8600 votes as returns came in. He had been behind by over 11000 when counting paused overnight. In 4281 of 4676 precincts Allison 165,955 to 174,555 for Thomas C Hennings Jr of St Louis. Forrest C Connell easily won renomination. Kansas saw Gov Carlson nominated for US Senate and Edward Arn for governor, with Landon setback as Carlson and Darby backed Mayberry for governor. Paul Aiken led Carl Rice in Democratic Senate race. Kenneth T Anderson appeared to win Democratic governor nomination. West Virginia saw Rush D Holt win the House nomination in the Third District.

Wichita Falls Flood Triggers Emergency Evacuation

Floodwaters from Holliday Creek flood the southern and eastern Wichita Falls area prompting a state of emergency declared by Mayor Harold Jones. DALLAS Aug 2 Roy B. Conley 54 year old Irving carpenter fatally shot himself yesterday after setting fire to his car and house. Justice of the Peace C. M Cantrell returned an inquest verdict of suicide.

The Weather Bureau notes generally fair conditions this afternoon and tonight with partial cloudiness by Thursday. A rise to 87 degrees is forecast today with a low of 42, and a high of 28 tomorrow. A few thunderstorms may occur from the Pecos Valley eastward with little temperature change.

First formal bid for Potter County Family Relations Court judgeship

W R Frazee submitted the first formal application for the Potter County Family Relations Court judgeship to the Juvenile Board today. The board members, including Judge Gene Jordan and Dist Judges Henry Bishop and W E Gee, considered prior amendments and potential candidates as they move to finalize the appointment this week. Frazee, a Texas attorney and 47th District Court reporter since January, sought the post after Amarillo Bar Association declined to recommend a candidate.

A three state manhunt for Frank Maklary 20 and his 15 year old wife ends near Edmond Oklahoma as Oklahoma Highway Patrolman A H Nelson detains them. Maklary faces a kidnaping warrant in Alamogordo NM while the wife who had sued for divorce was with her mother at the time. The couple evaded a Highway 66 roadblock and left Amarillo after a note begging to be picked up, describing it as life or death.
