Kidnaping Case In Alamogordo Sparks Prowl For Soldier

A cryptic life or death note led Amarillo officers to search for AWOL soldier Frank Maklary believed to have abducted his estranged wife Joann Kinder in Alamogordo New Mexico. The couple, married March 2, 194? and last seen driving a 1938 tan Dodge coupe, are described with ages 16 and 20 respectively. A nationwide broadcast and road blocks followed as relatives disclosed the pregnancy and pending divorce.

July Rain Totals Edge Records Across Texas Panhandle

MacArthur Refuses Chiang Troop Offer

General MacArthur returned to Japan from Formosa after talks with Chiang Kai-shek on Formosa defense. Plan City Trimming of Trees at Intersections

City park department workers will trim trees across town intersections. Park Supt. Mark Miles says adjacent property owners won’t be notified in advance. Crews will haul away brush and allow owners five days to attend to trimming themselves if they object. He cites safety due to recent accidents blamed on obstructing trees.

Amarillo Industrial Plan Declares 6 Percent Dividend

Stockholders of the Amarillo Industrial Plan Inc met in the chamber of commerce offices and voted to declare a 6 percent cash dividend. Directors including Jesse A Rogers Jay Taylor Paul Allingham Hugo Loewenstern Gene Klein E W Hardin and Charles Ware were reelected. The plan organized about three years ago to attract new industries and provide housing for expanding local industries. One building was purchased and another was built for a new manufacturing company both ventures have paid regular cash dividends.

July Builds Set New Amarillo Record Total

A morning recap shows July permits in Amarillo totaled 2,508,756 dollars, with a year to date 1950 total surpassing 1949 by over three million for the first seven months. The largest permit granted was 35,000 dollars for a concrete block truck terminal for L. J. Vogel, who said it will house Riss & Company. Merrill to Fight Again? Factories Hit Peak Employment Rate

Washington reports the nations factories added 50 new hires per 1000 workers in June the highest rate since 1948 matching a May rate of 44 per 1000. Layoffs fell from 11 per 1000 in May to 9 in June as Bureau of Labor Statistics released the figures.
