Housing Boom Spurs Demand Across Industries
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports record home building boosting employment and creating secondary demand in furniture, appliances, television, building materials, and related sectors. Industrial and commercial employment rose by 636,000 from mid-February to mid-March, partly due to coal strike settlements, with March totals at 42,323,000, still about 600,000 below last year. Americans now eat about 147 pounds of meat per person, vs 152 pounds in 1900.
