A head on collision near Goodnight yesterday killed Mrs. Katie Harper 57 and Mrs. Eva Braswell 25. Survivors include Georgie Klutts 4 with critical injuries, Mrs. George Klutts 34 with multiple fractures, and George Stratton 41 with severe injuries. The crash sent victims to Amarillo area hospitals and left bodies at Clarendon’s Duntin Funeral Parlor.
A radio report from New Orleans states Sandino bandits captured Cabo Gracias a Dios Nicaragua and destroyed the U S weather observatory there. No official confirmation yet as they earlier dismantled the local radio station near Puerto Cabezas. Magnolia Petroleum Company released a revised crude price list effective yesterday showing declines of 5 to 10 cents per barrel. In Ranger and North Texas districts prices range from 33 to 57 cents per barrel by gravity, Miranda field down 9 cents to 60, Darst Creek 53, Luling and Corsicana heavy 38, Panhandle districts cut 8 to 10 cents with Winkler 35 and Crane Upton Howard Glasscock Mitchell at 30 to 35 cents.
U S Weather Bureau reports Amarillo received .12 inch of rain in the last 24 hours and mist covered the Panhandle. The Santa Fe line logged .25 inch over the North Plains aiding wheat. unsettled skies with light showers tonight and partial cloudiness Saturday. Highways out of Amarillo slippery but passable. Lubbock highway best among dirt roads.
Rain fell Wednesday night through Thursday and again Thursday night totaling .33 of an inch by Friday morning. Light mist continued to soak into the ground.
After days of debate the Texas Senate engrossed the first truck control bill by viva voce vote. Final action was postponed to Monday for printing. The second bill will be taken then. Senator Woodul of Houston led the effort in the Senate. Representative Murphy of Livingston introduced the measures. Opponents say railroads pushed the proposals, which would tighten truck regulations and direct the railroad com.
Rain again halts progress on the Potter County courthouse with terra cotta and brick laborers missing Thursday and Friday. Interior plumbing and electrical work continued, while exterior wall setting will resume when fair weather returns.
Ralph T. ONeill national commander of the American Legion and his party plan brief stops in Plainview Tulsa and Canyon en route to Amarillo where they will be met by Amarillo Legionnaires led by Floyd L. Sloan. The group travels by car with Hal C. Brannan and R. Q. Whittaker and will stay overnight in Amarillo before continuing to Clovis Saturday morning. ONeill criticizes pernicious propaganda against the Legion.
About 1,000 contestants and 2,000 visitors from 22 Panhandle counties attend the District 1 Interscholastic League meet in Canyon Texas. Registration at 11, preliminaries in literature at 1 and athletics at 4, with events run at Buffalo Field despite rain. Schools in Amarillo and other Panhandle cities closed for the event.
Judge Henry Bishop will open the criminal district court with a lighter docket than recent terms. The term includes 19 indictments against 24 defendants with a retrial of Will Moore on murder and 13 complaints ready for grand jury review.
Amarillo and Panhandle residents will travel to Mexico City for Presi dent Ortiz Rubio’s show at the first Aeronautical Industrial and Commercial Congress and invite him to the 1931 Tri State Fair. The Globe-News special train departs May 16 and returns May 23 with all travel and meal costs covered.
In Kansas City Missouri on April 24 Southwestern millers forecast the largest wheat crop for the region in 1931. Ninety men attended the Southwestern Millers League meeting and estimated yields by state: Kansas 200000000 bushels Oklahoma 60000000 Texas 45000000 Nebraska 70000000. Thad L. Hoffman of the Kansas Flour Mills Company was elected board chairman.
Weather forecast for Amarillo and nearby shows unsettled conditions tonight with light rain possible. Saturday will be partly cloudy with continued light showers in the Panhandle and parts of West Texas and New Mexico seeing limited changes in temperature. Temperature extremes today reached 47 and 40 at 1 o'clock.
Firefighters say early Friday blaze at 2408 West First Avenue appears arson with coal oil soaked closets and a rug. Mrs. Melvin Phillips woke to an explosion and flames. neighbors noted the Johnson family had left for Quanah funeral services. Damages total about 500 dollars.
The Cactus Region Girl Scout conference starts at the Herring Hotel with 53 delegates registered by 10:30 AM. Mrs. Grace Thorpe Bear presided. Rev. Ira F. Key offered the invocation. Mayor Ernest O. Thompson welcomed attendees. National officers Sibyl Gordon Newell and Edith Conant spoke briefly. Classes began after the opening. Two lunch sessions addressed day camps and scouting issues with about 20 leaders at each. An exhibit of uniforms equipment and handwork was on display from various troops.
Patricia Blasdel 17, daughter of the late Eugene Blasdel and Mrs. Blasdel, will receive the Golden Eaglet tonight at 7:30 in Fellowship Hall, Central Presbyterian Church. She has been a Scout since 1925 and is a Cloverleaf troop lieutenant with many merit badges including athlete bird finder nurse cook first aid and lifesaving details. She is Amarillo’s fourth Golden Eaglet recipient, following Mary Adell Miner Mary Alice Griggs Copeland and Evelyn Crews.
Members of the Independent Petroleum Association of America meet in Tulsa for their second annual convention. Several hundred oil men from about a dozen states are expected. Wirth Franklin, the president, called the session to order as executive reports were presented. The tariff on foreign oil remains the association’s chief platform.
Two men were injured when a three story frame building collapsed at far Rockaway Queens during demolition work. One man was seriously hurt as the structure fell.

Senator Fess called a San Francisco speech attributed to Chairman Shouse a deliberate lie and Shouse rejected the charge. The dispute concerns Republican attacks on Chairman Raskob of the Democratic National Committee. Shouse said the word is one gentlemen avoid, amid the April 16 San Francisco remarks.

Mancus Twitty, 30, Gray County, Texas, was executed in the electric chair at Huntsville prison after pleading no contest to assaulting a 3 year old girl. He met death calmly with a smile, received Catholic baptism shortly before, and proclaimed I believe I am saved as his relatives planned or declined to claim the body.
A 20 year old San Antonio woodcutter is the prime suspect in the murder of 11 year old Edna Springer of Leming. Police extend the manhunt along the coast and border, watching Gulf ports for the fugitive while details of the stabbing reveal the girl was found in a gully near her step father’s farm.
