Capt Maurice L Britt a 24 year old former football star who killed five Germans and saved eight comrades then lost an arm and suffered multiple wounds received the Congressional Medal of Honor. He described the escape of his eight companions as miraculous after German prisoners used them as a screen near Mignano Italy on November 10 1943. He spoke from Lawson General Hospital where he is recovering returning to the United States seven days earlier.

Mrs. Nick Saenz of Monroe Louisiana widow of technician Nick Saenz and Mrs Angelina Godinez were shot to death on a forest trail near Houston. Mrs Saenz said Nick had threats against him and she suspects the killer, a remark made to Deputy Sheriff Jake Colca and district attorney staff. Her statement is considered the first tangible clue in the double killing.
