Premier Marshal Pietro Badoglio moves to form an enlarged war cabinet after talks with six political parties. A spokesman says the completed cabinet will be announced tomorrow and include one member from each party, the Liberazione junta. The junta reportedly includes the Communists.
In Washington, the largest wartime sedition case begins in Federal District Court. Twenty eight men and two women face charges of conspiring to undermine army morale and promote Nazism linked to Adolf Hitler. The trial is expected to take at least two months with Justice Edward C. Eicher overseeing.
The Lockheed Constellation piloted by Howard Hughes and Frye on its first long distance flight for TWA passed Amarillo at dawn. The four engine airliner carries 57 passengers, weighs 40 tons, and exceeds 390 mph.
Allied troops drove back the Japanese along the Imphal axis with heavy casualties and seized key positions north of Imphal. Glider-borne Chindits infiltrated by air, threatening supply lines to India as air bombardment targeted Yeu Shwebo and Mawlu. Lord Mountbatten moved Southeast Asia command to Ceylon, linking with Indian naval forces.
Brigadier General Arthur E. Easterbrook, commanding since January 21, receives telegraphic orders transferring him to Denver to serve as chief of staff for Gen. John F. Curry's Western Technical Training Command. His successor at Amarillo is not named. Easterbrook is a World War I ace who served with Eddie Rickenbacker and has held multiple posts before his arrival at Amarillo.

Allied 5th Army skirmishers attacked across three Italian fronts. A patrol two miles southwest of Cisterna blew up a large German ammunition dump after repelling defenders in a brief engagement. Earlier dawn action near Cerreto Alto saw tank-led American forces clear two German strongpoints near the beachhead.
About 1,000 people were killed or wounded after two ammunition explosions aboard a docked ship, sparked by a fire that burned for over 36 hours. A British communique noted casualties from the two accidental blasts and said the fire was under control.
Wayne Lonergan was sentenced to 35 years to life for the bludgeon strangulation of his 23 year old wife Patricia Burton Lonergan on October 24. He was found guilty of second degree murder by a jury on March 31.

New York dispatch says Moscow radio reported German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop bought shares in a St. Louis wine company using part of his 3.5 million dollars in foreign holdings. The broadcast links a return to his wine trade with possible shifts in his diplomatic career.
A near frost alert is issued with a forecast low of 28 to 32 degrees and strong 45 mph winds continuing into tomorrow. The wind damaged property but 13 year old Helen Zweig escaped with minor injuries. Cooler, partly cloudy conditions expected tomorrow.
American Liberators from the 13th Air Force launched a dawn raid on Eten and Param in Truk atoll, dropping 27 tons of bombs. Operations extended 200 miles west of Truk to Puluwat and Alet Island, while Mitchell bombers hit Ponape and Ant Island sinking a tanker and wrecking escort vessels. In London, 2,000 bus workers ended a strike over summer time tables as lines resumed normal service.
The London Daily Mail cites an Istanbul dispatch claiming Germany proposed an eight point peace plan to the United States and Britain last December via a neutral diplomat. Baron Manfred von Killinger allegedly presented the program while acting on Hitler's instructions. The diplomat said the proposals reached Washington and London but not Moscow and were not confirmed by Britain.
More than 100000 trained French partisans are prepared to disrupt German supply lines and assist Allied forces after the invasion. They have maps, equipment, and plans to blow bridges, railways, and communications, with units in the Alps and rural zones to target power, food shipments, and transport.

U S heavy bombers targeted Sofia and Belgrade rail yards and components plants, marking Belgrade’s first major bombing. General MacArthur awards Maj Richard I Bong a promotion to major for his record of 27 enemy planes, deeming liquor a improper recognition. Bong, not fond of drink, had thanked Eddie Rickenbacker for a promised case of Scotch and hoped it would reach the Allied air base, but MacArthur chose promotion as the fitting tribute.
General Douglas MacArthur stated he does not seek the Republican nomination but indicated he would accept being drafted for president. He urged that presidential selection is a duty beyond any single individual and affirmed readiness to fulfill any task assigned in service to the country during the ongoing political situation.
The forecast calls for partly cloudy and colder conditions tonight and Tuesday with freezing temperatures in the Panhandle area 28 to 32 degrees. Strong winds diminish Tuesday afternoon as cooler air persists across West Texas and New Mexico with freezing conditions in the Panhandle and scattered hail possible in northern mountains.
