Mrs. C. C. McWhinney, noted aviation leader and licensed pilot with over 250 flying hours, died when an airplane she and her husband were in crashed at Long Beach municipal airport. The crash also involved her husband. Earl S. Daugherty, her instructor, was previously killed in a December 8 fatality.
Two American youths Fred Wood of Richmond Hill and Albert Holliday of Amarillo joined Mexican insurgents near Guadalupe and were captured by Mexican Federal forces. About 40 insurgents were also taken. Federal officials said the Americans would be turned over to U S authorities.
Albert Holliday from Shattuck Oklahoma is believed captured after last being heard from in New Mexico. His mother Mrs Tilda Quisenberry remains in Shattuck and his brother Irving confirms the family details. The youth will turn 19 in May and may have previously worked in Amarillo.
Rescue workers and relief crews traced a large tornado path through five Northeast Arkansas counties. Reports listed 55 dead and about 159 injured with many missing. Alicia and Sneed reported large casualties while Guion and Batesville endured heavy losses as floods rose on nearby rivers.
The Chicago Rock Island and Gulf Railroad asked the ICC to approve a new Texas route shortening Amarillo to Fort Worth from 457 miles to 380. The plan includes 108 miles of track Shamrock to Quanah and running rights over lines to cover about 793 miles of trackage in Texas. The project also connects Gulf, Texas and Western routes and extends Rock Island’s Texas expansion from Liberal Kansas.

Amarillo police and cafe workers report Sonny Birdwell, a kitchen employee, opened fire after a fish order dispute at 1 PM yesterday. Bullets struck no one. Birdwell fled to an alley as officers searched for two missing Black helpers. Proprietor George Hagman seeks replacements.
Col. Charles A. Lindbergh stopped in Meridian to refuel on his transcontinental flight to New York for the funeral of Myron T. Herrick. He said he slept somewhere between Brownsville and Meridian and found his gas line tanks nearly empty upon arrival.
President Hoover weighs appointing Charles James Rhoads to replace Charles H. Burke as commissioner of Indian affairs, after Burke's resignation. The Philadelphia financier's name circulated in Washington reports today.
The headless body of a boy believed to be four year old Melvin Horst of Orrville was found in the Tuscarawas river near Ganden hutten. Griggs ambulance. Phone 4311.
The body found February 23 along Crawford roadside was identified as Mrs Richard M Campbell of Greenville Pennsylvania by two longtime acquaintances Mrs D Staub and Mrs H G Dodds who say there is no doubt. She had been missing since February 1 and investigators search for her husband a physician who planned to open a New York sanitarium.
The Associated Press reports one man died and five were seriously burned in an explosion aboard the United States Liner President Roosevelt, docked at Hoboken, New Jersey, on April 1. Police described the incident as an aboard ship blast with multiple injuries.
