Ranks Demand to Vote by Absence in War Time
The American Legion executive committee in San Antonio urged Texas to amend its constitution to allow citizens serving in federal military or naval forces during emergencies to vote, and to enable absentee voting. They also supported a bill enabling National Guard and Reserve officers to hold state offices in peacetime without penalties. The meeting approved a $225,000 National endowment quota and planned a statewide drive within nine weeks, with Fort Worth hosting the department convention on Sept 2-4 and Rock Island named as the official route.
