In the Pacific near Tokyo a Marine fighter plane vanished with three crew onboard. First Lt. Alan Murdock McAneny of Fighter Squadron 451 based at Atsugi NAS led the search for two missing airmen, 2nd Lt. David Winton Bell of Minnesota and Capt. H. P. Montague Jr. of Mississippi. Bell is the son of General Mills president Charles H. Bell.
The FJ2 Fury and F30D Sky Knight crews are missing after clouds forced the pair from a formation near Oshima Island, 61 sea miles south of Tokyo. More than 70 Navy Marine and Air Force planes scoured the area as dawn broke the long daylight. A raft radio was heard but no other word came from the men on board.
A Negro soldier testified that a murder gun found in his car did not belong to him and that he was 100 miles away when an airman was slain near Lovers Lane. Three defense witnesses placed M. Sgt. Marion Washington in Dallas at the time of Alec Poole’s death as he defended his fiancee from a rape attempt.
A Baldwinsville, New York, corporal, Harold M. Dunn, 26, pleaded guilty before a military court to collaborating with Chinese Reds while a prisoner of war. His wife Iris and his mother attended as prosecutors described him as a prisoner seeking favor with camp officials and repeating enemy claims. Dunn admitted making broadcasts for the enemy and taking part in Communist activities.
In Bonn on June 28 the Bundestag sharply challenged Chancellor Adenauer's plan to mobilize volunteers for a 500000 man armed force. The bill was referred back to committee amid bitter cross party opposition, including from Adenauer's CDU leaders. A new plan was promised but timing remains uncertain.
Amarillo Air Force Base drill team will headline a free 75 minute show at Amarillo Stadium on Saturday as part of the Fourth of July celebration. The program begins 7 19 p m with fireworks at 8 34 p m. A trampoline acrobatics demonstration and a 45 minute Amarillo Air Force Base Band concert are also planned. Gates open 3 p m for picnics and seating. Safety officials from local police and highway departments will manage crowds along with the Will Rogers Range Riders.
The City Commission plans a special session to draft a public statement rejecting financing proposals for the Canadian River Municipal Water project. Mayor Art Jordan and City Manager N V Moss will prepare a preliminary statement, with a final draft by the commission later today.

Philadelphia defeated Pittsburgh 3 0 in a resumed April 24 game 5 3. Chicago beat Milwaukee 7 0 and Cincinnati topped St. Louis 9 0. In the Texas-New Mexico League Amarillo beat El Paso 6 3 and Lubbock won 10 2 over Pampa with Clovis 13 4 over Abilene and Plainview 9 0 over Albuquerque.
Amarillo firemen asked the City Commission to cut their work week from 72 to 63 hours by shifting to a 24 hours on 24 hours off pattern with more consecutive days off. The plan would need about 15 more firefighters to maintain current staffing. Firemen representatives were H. C. Brown J. W. Allen and Troy Gatlin. City Manager N. V. Moss noted Houston uses 60 hours and Austin has adopted 63 hours.
Texas Rangers hunted June 28 for a missing airman linked to the triple slaying of Mrs. Ruby McPherson her son George and grandmother Zola Norman. Leads in Dallas and Fort Davis proved fruitless as investigators narrowed suspects to none, noted a gun type debate with a .22 rifle later ruled out. Funeral services for the victims were held in League City with burial in Hitchcock.
Agriculture Commissioner John C. White told the Texas Federation of Labor that labor and industry should unite for a pro-people outlook. He called for constructive labor laws and an end to partisan attacks, promoting shared prosperity across agriculture business and labor.
