The FBI seeks Williams on interstate auto theft charges while Memphis and the Texas cities hold forgery warrants. The total value of forged checks runs into thousands of dollars.
Amon G. Carter, publisher of the Fort Worth Star Telegram and known as the range boss of West Texas, died at age 75 after a period of ill health. He helped realize Fort Worth International Airport, which bears his name, and met Presidents and international figures during his career. He attended the airport dedication while in hospital and had guided its development for years.
