Amarillo officials announce the Amarillo Expressway first west Texas project will begin in August after bids on a storm sewer from 15th Ave to 36th Ave. The Texas Highway Department and City of Amarillo will share costs estimated at 1.8 million dollars for the sewer system with 800 thousand for initial work.
Gov Allan Shivers named A W Lair of Canyon as district attorney for Randall County to replace D E MacGlasson who resigned after a bill to abolish the county office and create the new post. Lair had been Randall County attorney since February.

Across the majors Boston routed Detroit 12 to 7 Chicago beat Washington 3 to 0 Cleveland topped Baltimore 5 to 0 New York won 6 to 1 over Kansas City Brooklyn won 3 to 2 at Chicago New York defeated Cincinnati 4 to 3 Milwaukee shut out Pittsburgh 6 to 0 Philadelphia beat St. Louis 9 to 6.
The First State Bank of Amarillo will open about August 1 after the State Banking Board approved its charter. The new bank carries a capital of 375000 dollars, starting with 250000 dollars in capital and 62500 dollars each in surplus and reserve funds. Directors include E P Mead, Larry B Stitt, J R Barnhill Jr, M K Newton, Eugene F Harris, M B Allen, H D Read, and Gordon With.
In Moscow on June 23 1957 Prime Minister Nehru and Soviet Premier Bulganin publish a joint declaration urging peaceful surrender to Chinese Communists and the seating of Communist China in the United Nations They call for a ban on nuclear weapons and reaffirm the five principles for international behavior. The Senate rejected Sen. McCarthy's bid to force a discussion of Soviet satellites at the Big Four conference, voting 77 to 4 against his resolution. Democratic leaders blocked his maneuver to send the measure to committee and refused his attempt to withdraw the original proposal.

Amarillo officials heard a three hour briefing from the educational committee of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority on the Canadian River Project. Fort Worth publisher Amon G. Carter of The Fort Worth Star Telegram is critically ill at his home at age 76. He has been under an oxygen tent for several days and his illness details are not being disclosed.
A buffalo drive started from Eva Oklahoma as Trail Boss Jim Jordan led the herd toward Clayton New Mexico, opening the Willow Bar crossing on the Cimarron River. The stampede forced W R Johnson and his son to dive under their tractor as the herd split and moved on for an eight day journey.
